Visit East Brae Cottage for accomodation in the the heart of Scotlands finest scenery Portpatrick is a part of the world where you can forget the stresses and strains of everyday life and relax into a time that you thought was long past Twynholm lies to the west of the River Dee, 3 miles north west of Kirkcudbright. The parish church of Twynholm dates from 1818, nearby is the Tudor-style mansion house of Cumstoun
Set against a dramatic backdrop of mountainous granite are the delightful red sandstone remains of Sweetheart Abbey The first bridge over the Nith, Devorgilla's Bridge named after the mother of King John Balliol, was built here in 1432. Shambellie House Museum of Costume, located at New Abbey, just south south of Dumfries in Dumfries and Galloway. Its collections include costumes and Scottish embroidery from the 1850s to the 1950s all displayed in period room settings.
The most southerly point in Scotland it offers excellent views over the Solway Firth. The local cliffs are home to thousands of breeding birds Grey Mare's tail,the waterfall at Moffatt, a "hanging valley" waterfall: the valley was scoured out by glaciers during the last ice age leaving the outlet burn from Loch Skene falling about 300 feet down a sheer and dangerous cliff face.
