| Set against a dramatic backdrop of mountainous granite are the delightful red sandstone remains of Sweetheart Abbey | The first bridge over the Nith, Devorgilla's Bridge named after the mother of King John Balliol, was built here in 1432. | Shambellie House Museum of Costume, located at New Abbey, just south south of Dumfries in Dumfries and Galloway. Its collections include costumes and Scottish embroidery from the 1850s to the 1950s all displayed in period room settings. |
